Digital video
YouTube - Human rights- Free and Equal - can you tell which of these children were not born free and equal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2kIYgrGi5o&feature=channel I am working with a class that are learning a unit of work; Making a difference, that concludes with an expo on the 40 hour famine. The KL A's particularly English and Literacy learning are based around the Human Rights Declaration and what your rights are as a human being. Do you know what they are? These videos were informative and assisted in connecting me with the concept of human rights and some of the background knowledge required for the unit. The movies or digital video's are also an example of how to convey a strong message through limited but emotive text and emotive visuals. I learnt as much through watching the short movies as I would have by reading thousands of words. The movies emphasise the power of visual literacy's; literacy that communicates well with 21st century learners. In using The Big 6 learning framework for E Learning, learning managers would use this technology to inform students. Students could also use the technology skills involved in creating by using movie maker, photo story or storybook to present their information in the synthesising stage of the learning framework. I have made a movie using free images from google image and a song from my computer music collection. This movie took 5 minutes but shows the impact of powerful images with emotive music.

I also like using You Tube in class, but found Teachers Tube very useful too. Some times at the end of viewing a Power Point I may include a You Tube clip.
ReplyDeleteCatherine I agree that you tube clips can be very effective when appropriate ones are chosen by learning managers. Obviously they are a great source also in engaging the students in the topic and encourage them to want to find out more.
